"Sweet Kona"
I was out looking for a frame for this painting
when I went to a kanikapila (jamming with music and hula) in Kailua-Kona...
I thought this was my "contribution to the arts".
and it would get me out of having to play the ukulele....
 But, no, I still had to refresh my memory of how to play a few chords!

13"x17"
Limited edition of 200

$100
The original oil on canvas is in the permanent collection
of the

Smithsonian Air & Space Museum in Washington, D.C.
The still life is a collection of artifacts relating to E.M. "Matty" Laird's contribution to aviation history...
The newspaper clipping and logbook entries document the use of the Laird-Swallow.
This 3-place plane, built in 1919, was the first commercial aircraft.
A 1929 advertisement depicts the Laird-Whirlwind, respected by the postal service for it's dependability.
The photograph shows the Laird-Super Solution which Jimmy Doolittle piloted to victory
in the first Bendix Transcontinental Air Race in 1939.
Rand McNalley railroad maps were used for navigation in those days;
 the helmet, goggles, and pilot's license are typical of that era.
